Bodega Bay, California is a special place. Not only is it beautiful, but it is also where we felt the shift from vacation mode to experiencing the fullness of our lifestyle.
When we moved into our fifth wheel in March 2018, we stayed at a lake near our recently sold home and more importantly, near friends and family. Then we moved to Morro Bay, near Jason’s father and step-mother. You can read all about that location here.
When we left Morro Bay and moved to Bodega Bay, away from family and familiar places, we no longer felt the vacation vibe that we had been drifting on for a few weeks. That’s when our full-time travel lifestyle felt official.
We were starting to settle into a routine and found ourselves trying new things. As you’ll see in this episode, our “yes” to pulling over and asking to visit with horses at a trail head resulted in a wonderful surprise.
Bodega Bay: We had a wonderful time at this location! The climate was perfect in April, with sunny days and cool breezes. The people in Bodega Bay are some of the nicest folks we have ever met! There is a small market in town, as well as a kite and candy shop. There are a few restaurants with amazing views, and a place to rent paddle boards.
Westside Regional Park: To read about our experience at the RV park, check out our review on Campendium.
Sonoma Coast State Park – Bodega Healdlands: This is must do! There are several miles of hiking trails that are easy to navigate. On these hikes, you’ll have stunning views of the coastline and might see wildlife along the way. Get close to a cliff side to watch boats go by, or stop at the designated look-out points to do some whale watching. You can also hike down to the beach!
If you plan a trip to Bodega Bay, be sure to visit Bodega Headlands at all hours. The views change throughout the day and the golden hour each evening is breathtaking!
Hagemann Ranch: We cannot sing enough praises about Hagemann Ranch and their generosity. We are especially thankful for Valerie La Forge for her invitation to tour the Ranch, meet animals and watch Border Collies herd cattle during feeding time. Our visit was such a special surprise and by far our favorite part of Bodega Bay!

When we met Val, she shared that she was soon to graduate from college and would be leaving for Japan, the Philippines, Vietnam and beyond! To follow her adventure, check her out on Instagram: @valerielaforge
Bodega Bay is a place we’d like to visit again. We hope that you will add it to your bucket list!
